The New Way to Buy and Deploy Complex Infrastructure

Monday 18 September 2017

By Neil Christie, Commercial Director at iomart

One of the most frustrating and painful parts of provisioning hosting infrastructure is the time it takes to buy the products and services you need and get them deployed in the way that works best for your business. Weeks can be wasted negotiating with vendors, arguing over price, and trying to visualise what the new environment will look like.

Over the past year or so I’ve been working on a new online tool that I hope will solve this problem once and for all.

It’s a free GUI which has a visual composer and a marketplace so you can shop for services and hardware directly with vendors (such as servers, firewalls, network connectivity), drag and drop them into a conceptual environment, build your racks, add details for automated provisioning, and then just pay up and check out.

The added beauty of this is that it allows you to liaise with the managed service providers you use directly, while consultants can design an environment, pass it to their end customer and receive a recurring fee if that end customer is paying for the environment.

Ultimately the aim is to give you a way to you to design, buy and deploy hosted infrastructure easily anywhere in the world…a sort of self-service checkout for the hosting industry (without the annoying talking screen!).

We’ve called it Happi – which stands for Highly Automated Procurement and Provisioning of Infrastructure - and hope it makes you feel that way when you use it. Here’s an example of how you can use it to build a private cloud.

Happi is currently in beta so we’re really keen to get your feedback.

There’s more information on the  website however if you’d like to see it in action, we’ll be demonstrating Happi on the iomart stand FF16 at IPExpo Europe.
