Intent-based networking - The ‘next big thing’ in digital transformation.
Monday 24 September 2018
Digital transformation is all about making organisations more agile by leveraging modern digital technologies such as advanced data analytics, to drive, manage and automate business processes. Unfortunately network management has, so far, failed to keep pace and remains a still manually intensive and largely reactive task, making it very much the Achilles Heel of most digital transformation plans.
Software-defined networking (SDN) goes some way towards addressing this shortcoming but remains hampered by a silo-based mindset when it comes to sharing critical information about network traffic, application loads, security and suchlike. Information that is essential if the network is to manage itself and adapt swiftly to changing conditions without the need for constant manual supervision.
Championed by Cisco and tipped as the ‘next big thing’ by Gartner and IDC, Intent-based networking (IBN) is designed to address this lack of synergy. Something it does by equipping the network to automatically translate business intent - things like service levels, process dependencies and compliance requirements - into policies to automatically configure the supporting infrastructure regardless of the components, their location or the vendors involved.
Beyond simple day to day network management, when fully implemented, Intent-based networking can also bridge the on-premise/cloud divide and empower the network to use context, advanced analytics and machine learning to understand what’s going on across the entire infrastructure - in order to pre-empt performance, capacity, and security issues before they have time to escalate.
Come and talk to us on stand G19 or visit the Avi Networks website to find out more about Intent-based networking, what we’re doing to be part of this new approach to network management and how it could help with your digital transformation.
IP EXPO takes place on 9-10 October 2019 at ExCeL London. This unmissable event is your one stop shop for digital transformation and covers every vertical you need to consider for successful implementation. Including network and hardware, cybersecurity, developer community, AI and analytics, IoT and Blockchain.
