Malware not a problem for Panda Security EDR customers

Wednesday 12 September 2018

Panda Security says malware file infections no longer pose a threat for its EDR customers.

Constant improvements and automation of Panda Security detection capabilities has seen the number of customer malware infections “trending to zero”, according to the enterprise cybersecurity provider.

Only three incidents associated with malware file infections have been escalated from Panda Security customers to its security team as of May 2018. The company currently has tens of millions of customers in more than 180 countries.

This comes despite new, more sophisticated malware being created every day. Around 11 million new malware samples are created every month according to a recent AV-Test report, with around 810 million different types of malware predicted to be detected in 2018.

The strength of solutions such as Panda Adaptive Defense 360 means cyber criminals are looking at other methods of attack. Fileless malware cases have risen sharply over the past few years, while business email compromise (BEC) scams are predicted to cost businesses over £6.4 billion worldwide this year.

Pedro Uria, Director of PandaLabs, said: “The challenge for the future of cybersecurity lies in hackers, not malware. Cybercriminals have the resources capable of compromising company systems without being detected as they don’t use malware or files that could give them away.

“To combat cybercriminals and malwareless attacks, companies have to protect their IT equipment with an advanced cybersecurity solution able to monitor systems in real-time and able to understand whether actions taken are genuinely legitimate, even if they look to be performed with legitimate applications not malware.

“With comprehensive cybersecurity solutions, malware is no longer a threat to businesses. Panda Security has seen a huge decrease in the amount of malware cases being escalated for manual analysis by its Panda Adaptive Defense 360 software over the years and, with further development, we expect that malware file attacks will soon be a thing of the past.”
